CTFA Grant Application Guidelines for 2008

CTFA is concerned solely with:

  • theatre for children and youth;
  • the utilization of drama or theatre in education for children grades K-12;
  • development opportunities for theatre artists working in the area of theatre for children and youth

Only one grant proposal per year may be submitted to the Foundation by an applicant.

Priority consideration will be given to applicants not funded by a CTFA grant during the previous grant year.

Most grant projects are for one year, however exceptional projects extending up to two years may be considered when included in the original grant submission.

Applications for general operating support or for activities undertaken for academic credit will not be considered.

Each grant application must give information to address the review criteria regarding

  • the quality of your work;
  • the feasibility for the project to be accomplished;
  • the significance of your project to the field (locally; nationally)
  • the relevance of the CTFA grant funds to the outcome of the project.

Each grant application must be accompanied by a completed CTFA GRANT APPLICATION SUMMARY SHEET and the requested documentation to support the information listed. Six copies of the application and all support materials are to be submitted.

Applications are accepted only from theatres and theatre artists within in the United States of America.

Grants Timeline

Founders Grant, Harris Grant, Harris Fellowship

January 1-April 1:
Proposals may be submitted between January 1st and April 1th of a calendar year.
(“Postmark” deadline April 1st. Incomplete applications will not be forwarded for grant review. Email submissions are not accepted.)

May-July:
Proposals will be reviewed between May-July of the submission year.

August 15 & 31
Grant applications to be funded will be notified by August 15.  All applicants will receive email notice by August 31st.

September 1:
Grant proposals must be for projects that  begin no earlier than September 1st of the grant application submission year.

September 29:
Grant award recipients must return to the CTFA  a completed contract agreement to be received no later than September 29. (Electronic return not accepted.)

July 14 of the following year:
Monies for all funded proposals will be distributed: 75% when granted, 25% upon receipt by the CTFA of the final project report no later than July 14th. (If the granted project spans more then one year, the reporting date will be specified in the grant contract agreement.)

Grant Recipients Requirements

Recipients of any CTFA grant must include the CTFA logo in all official programs or publications and the statement: “Funded in part by a grant from the Children's Theater Foundation of America.”

Theatres that commission and then retain the work created in part by the grant must make that work publicly available for use by other theatres within three years.

Recipients of the Aurand Harris Children’s Theatre grants; the Alvin Cohen Fund grants; and the Reba Robertson Award have additional requirements for inclusion of biographical material in any official program or publication used in association with the project.
